The Monster Hunter Wilds Switch 2 port is, in Capcom's words, a painstaking and at times seemingly endless process. The comment comes from producer Genki Sunano in a Kotaku interview reported by Nintendo Life on Friday, October 2, 2026.
What Sunano said about Monster Hunter Wilds Switch 2
According to the producer, Wilds is packed with a huge number of elements. The team had to evaluate the assets and the processing behind each one, then decide what to preserve and what could be adjusted without changing the overall experience. Sunano called that one-by-one sequence one of the biggest challenges in delivering Monster Hunter Wilds Switch 2 as a handheld game while keeping what makes Wilds feel like Wilds.
He added that certain assets and shaders were rebuilt for the Switch 2 version, aiming to preserve the look and the same quality of experience. Capcom says the knowledge from this Monster Hunter Wilds Switch 2 port will be applied to performance improvements on existing versions ahead of the Ascendance expansion, and could shape development on other platforms.
What is already confirmed
Last month Capcom confirmed that Monster Hunter Wilds Switch 2 runs at 30 frames per second in all modes. In TV mode there is an option to prioritize resolution or frame rate. The interview does not add a new release date or resolution targets beyond what had already been disclosed.
Why Monster Hunter Wilds Switch 2 matters
Wilds launched on other platforms with well-known technical problems. Bringing that game to a hybrid console, while keeping monster readability, environments and weather, means selective cuts rather than an automatic port. Sunano's comments frame Monster Hunter Wilds Switch 2 as a directed rebuild, not a simple graphics reduction. What the interview still does not set is the final calendar and how much handheld will differ from TV mode in practice.
