Ember Lab has delayed Kena: Scars of Kosmora from 2026 to 2027. The sequel to Kena: Bridge of Spirits is still planned for PlayStation 5, physically and digitally, and for PC on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
The news on Kena: Scars of Kosmora landed on October 1, 2026, on the PlayStation Blog, signed by chief operating officer Josh Grier and writer Thomas Varga. The game was revealed in February during a State of Play, with a 2026 window.
What happened?
The studio says it wants to exceed the quality of its 2021 debut and deliver an adventure on a much larger scale. “To do that we need just a bit more time,” they wrote. Moving the release of Kena: Scars of Kosmora into 2027, they say, is about polishing the expanded experience. There is no exact date inside the year.
Kena: Scars of Kosmora remains a character-focused linear adventure, but with a broader and deeper scope than Bridge of Spirits. The world also rewards players who leave the main path.
What happens on Kosmora
Before the events of the new game, Kena trained as a Spirit Guide: part warrior, part spiritual healer. When the dead cannot move on, dangerous manifestations of their pain infect the environment. Spirit Guides fight that Corruption to reach the heart of the problem.
Kena has helped spirits, but has not yet explored what the role means for the living — or her own pain. Childhood friend Orfio believes the island of Kosmora holds answers. She sets out to meet him and understand her past and future as a Spirit Guide.
The island’s ancient guides developed their own method, tied to the four elements and the Alchemystic Temples. Four interconnected cultures once thrived on Kosmora, each with a guiding element, until a mysterious cataclysm destroyed one of them. The spiritual symbolism of the elements faded, even as it still shapes how the surviving cultures live. The longer that wisdom stays buried, the greater the danger.
The temples work as dungeons: they test skill and pay off with rewards that change the course of the adventure. The island also has living cultures, with their own histories and conflicts. Kena’s mission crosses Kosmora’s past with characters in each region.
A new mount
To cross a larger map, Kena gains a crystalline canine companion tied to the island’s origin. The ancient spirit works as a mount, helps in combat — mounted or on foot — and joins the alchemystic puzzles. The pair set out to heal Kena’s scars and those of Kosmora itself.
Why it matters
Bridge of Spirits, from 2021, became a reference point for an indie debut published by Sony: animated visuals, staff combat, and the Rot, the spirits that follow Kena. The sequel was one of the pieces of the 2026 calendar on PS5 and PC. The delay of Kena: Scars of Kosmora pulls it out of an already crowded end of year and leaves the date open.
The studio’s post does not mention a platform change or cut content. What is confirmed is the year, the tone of the adventure, and the new companion. Price, length, and PC requirements have not been detailed.
