FF7 Revelation Platinum will be easier, Hamaguchi says, targeting 20%

Director Naoki Hamaguchi said the Platinum trophy in Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be easier to earn than in Rebirth. Speaking to Anime News Network, as reported by Eurogamer on Sunday (27), he estimated that around 20% of players — or more — should unlock it.

What happened in Rebirth

Only about 2.6% of PlayStation 5 players earned the Platinum in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Hamaguchi said the team wanted players to go through all the content and perfect it. The difficulty was by design.

He stops short of calling it a mistake, but admits the studio underestimated how many people would chase the trophy. Battle director Teruki Endo, he said, reacted with “I feel bad — I have regrets.”

What changes in Revelation

For the final chapter, combat needs to be enjoyable, not just punishing. VR Combat Simulator fights remain, with a new rule: in each set you can use each character only once.

Internally, Square Enix expects roughly one in five players to Platinum Revelation, far above Rebirth's 2.6%. The world is still huge; the tweak is in how satisfying the completionist path feels.

Why it matters

Rebirth became a case study in a Platinum that locked out completionists on purpose. Hamaguchi's comments show Square Enix heard the backlash without turning the finale into a stroll. Source: Eurogamer.
