The iPhone Duo is set to sell about 6 million units in 2026, according to Counterpoint Research’s first public estimate for Apple’s inaugural foldable. The figure is typical of the foldable niche, not of a standard iPhone cycle.
What happened?
Bloomberg cited Counterpoint senior analyst Ivan Lam: the 6 million outlook for this year depends on how well Apple ramps the new hardware. The iPhone Duo is priced at $1,999 with an October release.
IDC estimates the global foldable market will grow 13% this year to 22.9 million units with Apple’s help. Without the Duo, the segment would have declined, the firm said.
Supply-chain reports via Jiemian News put assembly yield just above 60% and a 2026 global stocking target of 6–8 million. A retail source told the outlet Apple’s sales guidance exceeds 5 million.
Why it matters
Six million in a short October–December window would be a strong start for a $2,000 device. It is still a fraction of a full-cycle Pro or Pro Max run, often compared at 20–30 million units.
Counterpoint also noted a fast start for the iPhone 18 Pro family in China, up 12% versus the 17 Pro’s opening, while the broader market fell 17% over the summer. Apple reached a 33% share in that slice, the firm said.
What changes in practice
Expect tight supply and a premium price. For the industry, Apple enters foldables at a volume that can move the category without matching conventional iPhone scale. Low yield remains the operational risk. Apple has not published official shipment targets.
