Marvel Studios confirmed during D23 Expo—Disney's massive fan convention—the main cast for the highly anticipated X-Men reboot within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the sprawling franchise connecting heroes like the Avengers and Spider-Man. The new X-Men movie hits theaters on May 5, 2028, directed by Jake Schreier.

Who Are the Casted Mutants?
Seven actors were revealed at the event, featuring both heroes and villains. Sadie Sink (seen in 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day') will play Jean Grey; Kit Connor ('Heartstopper') takes on Cyclops; Christopher Abbott ('Girls') is Professor Xavier; Samara Weaving ('The Invitation') steps in as Emma Frost; Inde Navarrette ('13 Reasons Why') suits up as Rogue; and Maya Boyd, in her first major feature film role, will play Storm. Meanwhile, Adam Driver, known for 'Star Wars', has been confirmed as the movie's main villain, playing an antagonist named Nathaniel Milbury.
Why This Differs from Past X-Men Movies
Fans who followed the X-Men films from the 2000s and 2010s might find this new era a shift: those productions belonged to a competing studio, 20th Century Fox, and existed outside the Avengers' continuity. After Disney acquired Fox in 2019, the mutant rights returned to Marvel Studios, paving the way for the X-Men to finally cross over with the broader MCU in an official, canonical production for the very first time.
According to Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, the announced cast is not yet final: "there is still more casting news to come," he stated during the event—hinting that other classic mutants, such as Wolverine or Magneto, could be announced in the coming months.
What Remains Unknown
So far, Marvel has not released plot details or confirmed how (or if) the film will tie directly into recent MCU events. The definitive character costumes also have yet to be revealed.
