The Sift is Minecraft’s first new dimension in more than 14 years. Mojang confirmed at Minecraft Live in September 2026 that the realm becomes the fourth official world alongside the Overworld, the Nether and the End, slated for Java and Bedrock in 2027.
What happened?
Game director Agnes Larsson said The Sift, shown in Minecraft Dungeons II, will not stay in the spin-off. It is coming to the main game next year. The End shipped in 2011; since then Minecraft has not added a full new dimension.
Dungeons II launches on September 29, 2026 and acts as an early showcase of The Sift: players already travel through rifts into areas such as the Meadow and the Carapace, meet the Blub mob and explore a soul-rich environment of reddish stone, vegetation and sculk.
What else did Live show?
The next Minecraft game drop adds underground ice caves with calcite, icicles and glowing crystals, plus a frozen zombie that can apply a freeze effect and throw ice balls. Mojang also discussed creator tools and Marketplace sound-effect packs later this year.
Why The Sift matters
The Nether and the End reshaped progression, resources and the endgame. The Sift, with its own biomes and creatures, is likely to carry similar weight. Players who want a first look can jump into Dungeons II this Tuesday; classic Minecraft waits until 2027.
