The Last of Us arrives on the PS5 Welcome Hub for the first time with a free animated background. Naughty Dog announced the art on Saturday, September 26, 2026, as a teaser for TLOU Day on Monday the 28th.
What is the background?
The wallpaper mixes key art from The Last of Us Part 1 and Part 2: younger Ellie and older Ellie, with Joel and Abby in the frame plus bird and lightning animations. It is a native Welcome Hub background, not a return of classic dynamic themes.
How to enable it
Open Welcome Hub, tap Change Background and find The Last of Us under the Games tab. If it is missing, go to Settings > System > System Feature Updates. Naughty Dog asked players to sign in to PlayStation to download it.
Why now?
The studio framed the drop as a Saturday surprise and saved bigger news for TLOU Day. The date usually brings franchise partnerships — including HBO Season 3 casting news this week. The background does not spoil Monday’s announcements.
