The Grimm Reapress gets western date: May 13, 2027

NIS America announced on October 29, 2026 that The Grimm Reapress and the Drearytale Monster will launch in the west on May 13, 2027. This is CONFIRMED information: it is the publisher's own announcement, reported by Gematsu and RPG Site on the same day. The confirmed platforms are PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam, with Japanese audio and English subtitles.

The game is a single-player, story-driven adventure drawn by hand to look like a picture book. It comes from the team behind The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince and The Cruel King and the Great Hero, and it had already launched in Japan on April 30, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Switch 2 and Switch. The western release therefore also marks the title's PC debut.

One sister, one book, one monster

The protagonist is Mono, a girl who lives neglected in the attic of her family's opera theatre. The only person who has ever treated her like family is her older sister — and she falls ill with Paper Mortis, a magical disease that turns its victims first into storybooks, known as Grimmoires, and then into monsters.

To try to save her, Mono must enter the Libratarium, where her sister is kept, and make a contract with Mär, a fantastical monster bent on vengeance. Along the way, players explore different storybooks to learn the tales of the girls who became Grimmoires, solve puzzles and fight bosses.

How Mär plays

Mär is not just a companion in the story: players can command him to attack enemies, tear up the paper world and solve puzzles. Using his powers too much, however, can send him berserk — a risk to manage during exploration and combat. Clearing each storybook unlocks new abilities for Mär, such as breathing fire and flying, opening rewards in previously visited areas.

According to RPG Site, pre-orders for the limited edition, priced at US$ 89.99, are already live on the NIS America store. The publisher also released a release-date announcement trailer on YouTube.
