STEINS;GATE: Octet of Shifting Space launches today, Wednesday, September 30, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam in the West. Spike Chunsoft is publishing the release outside Japan.
What the game is
The title adapts the original 2011 Windows graphic adventure. Instead of modern visual-novel choice menus, players steer Rintaro Okabe with typed commands in the style of 1980s adventures. USB keyboards and on-screen keyboards are supported on consoles.
The plot sends Okabe and the lab back through Akihabara in search of the IBN 5100, stolen once again. Progress depends on inventing and testing English commands.
How it arrives in the West
Japan already received the game on August 20, 2026 for PS5, Switch 2 and Switch. The Western version is the first console and Steam outing outside Japan. Spike Chunsoft frames it as a recreation of the classic parser, not a graphical remake in the mold of STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT.
Why it matters
Octet of Shifting Space is a rare franchise experiment: a STEINS;GATE you play as a text adventure, not only as a route-based visual novel. For series fans and retro adventure players, it is the first official chance to play the 2011 piece in the West with a keyboard on the couch.
