Spirit Circle: Satoshi Mizukami's manga gets TV anime in December, director Tatsuo Sato's final work

Satoshi Mizukami's manga Spirit Circle is getting an 18-episode television anime adaptation. It will air in Japan and stream globally starting in December 2026.

What we know

Produced by Twin Engine with animation by NAGOMI and EOTA studios, the series is directed and written by the late Tatsuo Sato, known for Martian Successor Nadesico, Stellvia and Bodacious Space Pirates. Sato passed away in April 2026, making this his final work as director. Assistant director Kentaro Mizuno oversaw completion while preserving the original vision.

The main cast includes Kazuki Ura as Fuuta Okeya, Anna Nagase as Kouko Ishigami, Eri Yukimura as Rune and Yuichi Nakamura as East. Nagase also performs the ending theme "Koko ga Donna Sekai Demo" (No Matter the World).

The story

Fuuta Okeya is a middle school student who can see spirits and hides a strange mark on his cheek. His life changes when he meets transfer student Kouko Ishigami, who carries a grudge from past lives. The narrative explores reincarnation, sins of the soul and connections across time.

The manga ran from 2012 to 2016 in Young King OURs by Shōnen Gahōsha across six volumes. It has an English release from Seven Seas Entertainment. By 2022 it had sold around 250,000 physical copies.

Why it matters

Mizukami is the creator of respected series such as Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer and Sengoku Youko. The adaptation arrives ten years after the manga's conclusion and serves as Sato's final legacy. Streaming platforms will be announced later. Official site: spiritcircle.jp.
