Sekiro: No Defeat, the anime adaptation of FromSoftware's Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, will air as a television series in January 2027. It will run for eight episodes, rebuilt from the theatrical cut that opened in Japan on September 4, 2026, with new episodes, scenes and cuts that were not in the cinema version.
What happened?
The official site announced the premiere window, a new key visual and a comment from producer Arch. Staff say Sekiro: No Defeat was originally developed as an eight-episode series; they first wanted audiences to see the picture and hear the sound on a theater screen. Extra screenings start October 2. The film earned about 99.84 million yen (about US$649,000) in its first three days and ranked ninth.
Crunchyroll will stream Sekiro: No Defeat worldwide except Japan, China, Korea, Russia and Belarus. The theatrical edition also screened out of competition at Annecy.
Why it matters
Sekiro is one of FromSoftware's most recognized titles outside the Soulsborne line. Bringing Wolf, Kuro and Genichiro to TV with the original game cast keeps the voices players already associate with the characters.
Kenichi Kutsuna directs at studio Qzil.la, with Shunsuke Fukui as assistant director, Takahiro Kishida on character design, Takuya Satō on scripts and Shuta Hasunuma on music. After questions about generative AI, the committee said the anime is hand-drawn and does not use generative AI.
What changes in practice
Viewers who only saw the film get extra material on TV. Anyone who missed theaters can watch the full story across eight episodes from January 2027.
