Record of Dorathia: Momodora creator announces a dungeon RPG with no AI

Record of Dorathia is the next game from Guilherme “rdein” Martins, creator of the Momodora series. Bombservice announced the title on October 6, 2026: a turn-based dungeon-crawling RPG, with no date, no Steam page yet, and an explicit promise of no AI use at any stage.

What happened?

The announcement went up on the Bombservice site and was picked up by 4Gamer and Automaton West. The game focuses on the magi, twelve weavers of fate who appeared in passing in Momodora: Moonlit Farewell. The four-person team behind Momodora II is developing it. Players control a party transported to a place known only as the Observatory, summoned by the mage Monna. The covenant is to find the lost soul of her sister, Alma.

Martins says making an RPG was a long-held dream. Cited references include Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, Etrian Odyssey and Pokémon Gold and Silver. The project began as a 2019 digital gamebook experiment, later turned into a tabletop RPG and left unfinished. After Moonlit Farewell in 2024, he returned to the material. 4Gamer reports development has already run for about three years.

Why it matters

Momodora and Minoria established Martins in indie metroidvanias. Record of Dorathia swaps the jump and side-view map for a party, classes and status effects. The author admits the production pace changed: a Momodora jump could be programmed in an afternoon; here, weeks and months went into making combat feel right.

The AI line fits the industry moment. While large studios debate what to hand to models, Bombservice says Record of Dorathia will not feature AI use of any kind. There is no trailer yet. A Steam page and a video are promised soon, according to Automaton.

What changes in practice

Anyone waiting for a new metroidvania will not find it here. Combat is turn-based, and many actions have limited uses. The weight sits on status effects and on exploiting weaknesses, buffs and debuffs. Bosses are also open to status, but not in the same way as regular enemies. The example in coverage: Sleep on a lesser enemy opens a guaranteed critical; on a boss, the same spell applies Drowsy, which cuts attack and agility for a set number of turns.

  • The Willpower mechanic stacks from crits, weaknesses and kills. Three stacks buff the next action and do not consume a use, including on heals and revives.
  • The party has four active characters and eight classes: Dark Knight and Oathkeeper as tanks, Cleric and Oracle in healing and support, Blademaster, Monk, Hunter and Witch on attack.
  • Each party member’s color palette can be customized.

No platform is confirmed beyond the plan to open a Steam page, and there is no price or release window. Official updates live on the Bombservice post, at 4Gamer and at Automaton West.
