NVIDIA announced on September 28, 2026 the Open Agent Safety Platform, an open software stack and hardware reference design to set enforceable boundaries for AI agents from testing through production.
The company argues recent incidents show application-layer guardrails are not enough. Jensen Huang said AI's potential only materializes if the industry solves safety, and that safety requires full-stack engineering.
OpenShell and Sentry
OpenShell is an open-source runtime that governs what an agent can see, do and talk to. It is optimized for NVIDIA Vera CPUs and can be extended to Arm and Intel platforms, according to NVIDIA.
Sentry runs out-of-band on BlueField-4 DPUs. Because it sits on separate silicon, NVIDIA says the agent cannot disable monitoring. Policy violations can trigger quarantine in milliseconds.
Official partners include Anthropic, Microsoft, Salesforce, SAP, Scale AI and others. OpenAI is not listed in NVIDIA's announcement.
