Now That We Draw (Kakunaru Ue wa) confirmed a January 2027 premiere in its first trailer. The rom-com about two students trying to draw manga will be animated by studio ROLL2 and directed by Shunsuke Ishikawa.
What happened?
Thursday's announcement also brought visuals of Yuuki Uehara (Ayumu Murase) and Niina Miyamoto (Sayumi Suzushiro). The manga by Kyu Takahata and Yuwji Kaba has run in Hakusensha's Young Animal since February 2023; volume 8 arrives September 29. Seven Seas publishes the English edition.
Deko Akao handles series composition, Hiromi Nakagawa character design and Yoshiaki Miura the score. Infinite produces. A first key visual arrived in March; the trailer now locks the winter 2027 window.
Why it matters
Now That We Draw mixes school rom-com with the grind of pitching manuscripts. Uehara writes a shy, chaste heroine; an editor rejects the story as unrealistic. He crosses paths with classmate Miyamoto, also an aspiring manga artist, and they start a fake relationship to gather experience — and material — for their own comics.
The manga has blurbs from Yusuke Nomura and Minoru Toyoda and support art from Hajime Isayama and others. Putting it on TV in winter 2027 adds another series about the craft of making manga.
What changes in practice
Now That We Draw joins the January 2027 slate. Readers of the Seven Seas edition or the Young Animal serialization get an animated entry point with the announced cast and ROLL2's staff.
