Muramasa: Revenant Blades received its first hands-on previews on Thursday, October 8, 2026. Gematsu and Nintendo Life spent about an hour with a PC build at Marvelous headquarters in Shinagawa, Tokyo. The announced date did not change: February 4, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
The game is the modern return of Muramasa: The Demon Blade, Vanillaware’s side-scrolling action RPG released on Wii in 2009, and of 2013’s Vita game Muramasa Rebirth. Nintendo Life notes that Revenant Blades combines Rebirth and the Genroku Legends DLC, so all six playable stories are available at launch. In the session, only Kisuke and Momohime were unlocked. Nintendo Life’s reporter chose Momohime, a noblewoman possessed by a spirit.
What the hour of play showed
The setting is still Genroku-era Japan. Despite the side view, there are branching paths with chests, consumables, and collectibles. Combat keeps the three-blade system: each weapon has a durability bar, the two not in use recharge, and a blade can break if it is not swapped in time, without a permanent loss.
Nintendo Life describes samurai who block standard attacks and yield to a charge, ninjas whose projectiles can be deflected, and a first boss, the Blue Monk, slow enough to read jumps, shockwaves, and fire pillars. The reward was a new weapon and a look at the skill tree, with six slots, three on the ground and three in the air. There is new English voice acting, a Japanese option, and several text languages.
In Gematsu’s account, holding the jump button does not change height, but mid-air direction changes are possible. Some encounters lock the screen until enemies are cleared; in other areas you can run past. The piece notes dash, dodge, and per-weapon specials, with no major bugs in the session. Art up to 4K keeps Vanillaware’s linework, with layered backgrounds.
What was already set
Marvelous USA confirmed on September 3, 2026, the February 4, 2027 date for the Americas and global PC. The standard physical edition is US$49.99 on PS5 and Switch, and US$59.99 on Switch 2, with the full game on the cartridge. The limited edition, with an art book, selected soundtrack, and folding screen, is US$89.99 and US$99.99. Digital edition details were not closed in that announcement.
Today’s previews do not change price or platforms. What they add is a read on pacing: fast combat, blade management, and a complete version of a game that, outside Wii and Vita, was hard to play on current hardware. Nintendo Life says travel and accommodation for the preview were paid by the publisher.
