Modern Warfare 4 Double XP finally changes a rule players have hated for years. When Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, 2026, a token only spends time while you are in an active match.
What happened?
The official Call of Duty account said tokens “will count down in game time” and existing tokens “will be usable” in MW4. The clock pauses in menus, lobbies, matchmaking queues and post-game screens.
Until now a token started burning the second you activated it. A 30-minute token could lose about a third just waiting for the next match, as Push Square noted.
What we know
GameSpot and IGN report the change covers Double XP, Double Weapon XP and Battle Pass tokens. Players who stacked tokens in Black Ops 7 on the same Activision account keep that stock for day one.
- Timer runs only in a match
- Menus, lobby and queue pause the spend
- Old tokens transfer into MW4
- Launch date is October 23, 2026
Why it matters
Modern Warfare 4 Double XP no longer punishes loadout tweaks, camo grinding or a long queue. Activision did not say whether the pre-match countdown counts as in-game time. The official promise is that menus and matchmaking no longer waste the boost.
The change lands alongside other quality-of-life tweaks, including a Warzone skin filter in Season 1. There is still no confirmation that the same timer applies to the battle royale on day one.
