Sony CES 2027 will not look like the old playbook: Sony Group confirmed it will not exhibit at CES in Las Vegas in January 2027. It is the first time in about 60 years that the company and its affiliates sit out the show — Sony has been present since the inaugural 1967 edition.
The news was first reported by Nikkei Asia and confirmed by a spokesperson to Bloomberg. Neither Sony nor group companies plan a booth at Sony CES 2027.
What changed
In a statement, Sony said it evaluates events based on business priorities. The weight now sits on entertainment, intellectual property and creator technology: games, anime, film and music.
At CES 2026 Sony already had no standalone booth. The stage belonged to the Honda joint venture, Sony Honda Mobility, and the Afeela EV. That project was wound down this year, removing the last obvious reason to keep a large hardware showcase in Las Vegas.
What it means for PlayStation
The Sony CES 2027 decision neither announces nor cancels PlayStation 6. It does make clear that if next-gen game hardware is revealed in 2027, CES is unlikely to be the venue. Sony still makes PlayStation peripherals and consoles, but it sold the Bravia TV business to TCL and talks less like a consumer-electronics house.
For players, the calendar shift is simple: State of Play, PlayStation showcases and game events become the natural announcement channel, not the January gadget show.
Why it matters
CES remains the floor where hardware rivals show TVs, PCs, handhelds and accessories. Without Sony on the show floor, conversation about consoles and PlayStation IP moves fully onto the company’s own channels. Sony CES 2027 is, in practice, a strategic absence — not a retreat from PlayStation.
