Minecraft tops 425 million copies and 300,000 first-time players a day

The Minecraft 425 million copies milestone came with another rare stat for a 17-year-old game: more than 300,000 people enter the sandbox for the first time on an average day, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said after Minecraft Live 2026.

What happened?

Sharma posted on X and IT Home followed. The 300,000 figure is average first-time play, not daily unit sales. The same show announced The Sift for 2027, Dungeons II on September 29 and Switch 2 on October 27.

Why it matters

Few IPs recruit a mid-size city of newcomers every day after 17 years. Java and Bedrock cover almost every screen, which helps explain the 425 million total.

In practice

New dimension, Dungeons II and Switch 2 are a funnel, not only nostalgia.
