MacBook Pro M6: Apple announces 14-inch model with Wi-Fi 7 and stronger local AI

The MacBook Pro M6 is here: Apple has officially announced the new 14-inch model powered by the M6 chip, delivering more performance, advanced on-device AI capabilities, and faster connectivity for students, professionals, and creators.

What happened?

The base MacBook Pro M6 model receives the M6 chip, which features a 12-core CPU — including what Apple calls the world’s fastest CPU core — and a 12-core GPU. Compared to the M5, the GPU is up to 30% faster, while the dual 16-core Neural Engine is up to 1.9x faster. For AI tasks, LLM prompt processing is up to 1.3x faster than on M5 and up to 13x versus M1 models.

Connectivity has been upgraded to Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, improving wireless speed and stability. The design keeps the traditional ports: three Thunderbolt 4, HDMI, MagSafe 3, SD slot, and audio jack, plus the 12MP Center Stage camera.

Why does this matter?

The MacBook Pro M6 reinforces Apple’s focus on high-performance local AI, enabling larger and more complex models to run directly on the device without relying on the cloud. This is relevant for developers, video editors, and users who prioritize privacy and speed in professional workflows.

The starting price remains $1,999 with 16GB of unified memory and 1TB of storage, available in silver and space black. Pre-orders begin October 28, with first deliveries on November 6.

What changes in practice?

Users gain more performance in code compilation (up to 2.5x faster than M1 in Xcode), graphics, and AI inference. Battery life reaches up to 24 hours, and fast charging hits 50% in 30 minutes with a compatible adapter. M5 Pro and M5 Max models remain available, with rumors of larger updates soon.
