Japanese director and writer Kotaro Uchikoshi, known for Zero Escape and AI: The Somnium Files, announced on Wednesday (14) the founding of the CRASH KEYS studio, based in Shibuya, Tokyo.
In a series of posts on X, Uchikoshi revealed that the company was created in March 2025 and that the original plan was to announce it together with a new game in 2027. However, the project the team had been working on for about a year and a half was abruptly canceled, leading him to bring forward the reveal and seek investment partners and new work.
“The game our whole team had poured our hearts and souls into for about a year and a half was suddenly canceled… I lost my job overnight,” he wrote. The creator asked for help in a humorous way: “Please give us some work!! At this rate, our company might literally CRASH into a million pieces.”
What is CRASH KEYS
The studio specializes in game design, direction and narrative writing. The slogan is: “Some locks can only be opened with broken keys. All creation begins with destruction. Crash your rusty old keys. Beyond the door lies a world yet unseen. We CRASH KEYS. Shattering conventions to unlock the unknown.”
Founding members include Uchikoshi and other professionals with experience on titles such as The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy. The company is seeking investment partners interested in original projects and is open to work proposals.
The announcement was covered by outlets such as Famitsu, Automaton and Gematsu, confirming the formal establishment of CRASH KEYS and the context of the previous project's cancellation.
