Fallout 76 received a directors' letter on September 30, 2026, with Appalachia's content plan into next year. Bethesda Game Studios' text, signed by creative director Jon Rush and production director Bill LaCoste, confirms three milestones: World Pets in December, Hideouts in the spring and the Raven Rock expansion, which pushes the map toward the Capital Wasteland almost 200 years before Fallout 3.
What the letter confirms
World Pets arrives in December 2026. In Fallout 76, C.A.M.P. animals can follow the player into the open world, level up and gain stay, follow, protect and attack commands. Bethesda ties the feature to a return to Skyline Valley, with bounty hunting linked to the Blue Ridge Caravan Company shutting down operations there.
In spring, Hideouts arrive: high-value target camps meant as a step between early endgame and raids. There is an extra Marked difficulty with bigger rewards, and a masked rival, The Drifter, who tries to eliminate other hunters. The letter leaves open whether he is an independent agent or an Enclave operative.
Raven Rock is the largest Fallout 76 announcement in this cycle. The map grows southeast, toward the Capital Wasteland, about 27 years after the bombs and nearly two centuries before the Lone Wanderer's journey. The premise is a cold war between two derelict Enclave operators. The letter's campaign line is: "The Enclave will not rest until stability is restored."
What is still open
The official letter says Raven Rock arrives "next year," with no day or month. Outlets such as Massively OP and GamingHQ, covering the Fallout 76 roadmap, place the expansion in summer 2027. That window is not a locked date in Bethesda's text. There is also no finished list of quests, weapons or the size of the new map.
Along the way, the studio promises work on seasonal events, rendering, weather, the new-player experience and fishing, with in-universe rumors of a golden axolotl. The letter does not tie Raven Rock to a Fallout 3 remaster.
Why it matters
Fallout 76, launched in 2018, is still getting map expansions rather than a service shutdown. Raven Rock is the first official return to Fallout 3 territory inside the live game, but in an era when the Capital is still covered in black snow and ash. For live-service players, the calendar separates what arrives in December from what waits until 2027.
