Castlevania Belmont's Curse launched today, October 15, 2026, by Konami for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch. Developed by Evil Empire with collaboration from Motion Twin, the title marks the series’ return to 2D exploration format in the year of the franchise’s 40th anniversary.
What happened?
Set 23 years after the events of Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, the game puts players in control of Rose Belmont, daughter of Trevor Belmont. In 1499, Paris is invaded by monstrous creatures, and Rose must use the Vampire Killer whip to explore, fight and uncover a conspiracy.
Gameplay combines fast action with metroidvania exploration, including the Arcana system based on tarot cards that unlock special abilities after defeating bosses. A demo was already available and progress can be transferred.
Critical reception
The game arrived with strong scores for Castlevania Belmont's Curse. On Metacritic, the PS5 version sits at 86, PC at 82 and Switch around 78, all generally favorable. Highlights include a 10/10 from GameSpot, which praised the combat, exploration and visuals.
Critics highlight the successful return of the series after years without a new mainline 2D title, though some note that the genre evolved significantly during the absence.
Why it matters
Castlevania Belmont's Curse represents the modern continuation of one of the most influential action-adventure franchises in gaming. With an accessible price (around US$29.99 for the standard edition) and a demo already available, it arrives for series fans and new players in the anniversary year.
