Apple announced on Tuesday (October 13, 2026) the HomePod mini 2, the first major update to its compact smart speaker since the original launch in 2020.
The new model arrives with the S10 chip, support for Siri AI (which will be available in a future software update), new colors, the Sound Glow feature, and the ability to form a four-speaker surround system together with the new Apple TV 4K.
Key features of the HomePod mini 2
Sound Glow turns the top of the device into a visual canvas that glows and pulses in sync with the music, reacting to bass and treble in real time. Colors are generated from the album art of the currently playing song.
Up to four units can be paired with the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K to create surround audio, with automatic position and level calibration in the room. The HomePod mini 2 can also serve as the default speaker for a compatible Mac.
Available colors are pink, green, blue, white, and midnight. The price is $149 in the United States. Pre-orders started today, with store availability beginning Friday, October 30.
Siri AI arrives later
Although the S10 chip enables Siri AI support, Apple confirmed that the feature will not be available at launch. It will arrive via a future software update, initially in English and in selected markets (US, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the UK). An iPhone or iPad compatible with Apple Intelligence is required to enable it.
The announcement is part of Apple's “Welcome Home” event, which also introduced the HomeView display and the new Apple TV 4K.
