AION 2 launches free on PC worldwide today, on Steam and PURPLE

The MMORPG AION 2 reached a global audience on Monday, October 5, 2026, free on PC via Steam and NC's own PURPLE platform. The launch follows early access that began on September 30 for Founder's Pack buyers.

NC, formerly NCSOFT, described the debut in a release reported by Inven Global. The company said that during early access the game held the number one spot on Steam's global top sellers chart in more than 10 regions. The Korean and Taiwanese versions have been live since November 19, 2025; the worldwide window had been delayed from September to October 5.

What changes from the original AION

AION 2 is set 200 years after the first game, which arrived on PC 17 years ago. With the Tower of Eternity destroyed, Elyos and Asmodians cross a shattered universe while facing the Balaur. NC says the world is 36 times larger than the original and that the title was built for PC on Unreal Engine 5, with the engine adapted for customization and multiplayer.

Flight is the axis: aerial combat and traversal, which the company calls a category reference. Combat is fast and depends on timing and positioning, but still accepts classic tab-targeting. There are solo and five-player dungeons, ten-player raids, 1v1 and 4v4 arenas, and cross-server Realm versus Realm battles. The faction Abyss from the first AION also returns. There are eight classes and more than 200 customization options.

Servers, languages, and rating

Local servers are in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia (Japan). The game is available in English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, and Russian. The release lists a T (Teen) ESRB rating and PEGI 16+. Western publishing is handled by NC America, based in Irvine, California.

Before launch, NC ran a scale test in mid-September, showed the game at Summer Game Fest Play Days and Gamescom, and adjusted pricing after listening to Western players from March onward. Community listings pointed to servers opening at 13:00 UTC, which is 10:00 in Brasília time. The official Steam page is the place to check the current state of the service.
