South Korean startup Scatter Lab launched on Monday, September 28, 2026, the Visual Novel mode for its AI character platform Zeta. The feature mixes the existing story chat with visuals that change as the plot moves.
What the mode does
According to Aju Press, as the conversation continues, character expressions and actions adapt to the situation. Backgrounds also shift when the location changes. The mode adds choice menus and dice events, in the style of an interactive visual novel.
AI generates content in real time. When a new character appears, the platform creates the image on the spot. Users can enter a simple setting and reference images so the system produces portraits, expressions, backgrounds and an opening scene.
Creators and monetization
Outfits registered by creators can be applied to match the mood of a scene. Those outfits can be sold to other users, giving creators a way to monetize skins inside Zeta.
Why it matters
Scatter Lab wants to move AI chat beyond plain text and closer to a visual novel. For geek audiences, it is another sign that character platforms are borrowing the grammar of Japanese and Korean narrative games — choices, dice, illustrated scenes — with on-demand generation.
