The cartridge version of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition arrives in stores on Thursday, October 1, 2026. The date matches Monolith Soft's 27th anniversary, which the studio marked on its official X account.
The digital edition and upgrade pack have been available since July 30. What changes today is the physical format, listed by Nintendo in several regions for October 1.
What the Switch 2 Edition adds
According to Nintendo's official page, the game runs at 4K and 60 fps in TV mode (on a compatible display) and at Full HD 60 fps in handheld mode, with sharper cutscenes. Owners of the original Switch version can buy only the upgrade pack.
Exclusive content includes:
- the rare Blade MOMO, with light and dark forms and her own quest;
- Merc Assault, an action mode where you command up to six Blades on mercenary missions;
- new equipment looks for Pyra and Mythra, including in cutscenes.
Torna ~ The Golden Country received a free 4K/60 fps Switch 2 update on July 30. Players who only have Torna through the Expansion Pass need the Xenoblade 2 upgrade pack for the same treatment.
Why the date stands out
On October 1, @MONOLITHSOFT posted that today is the studio's founding anniversary and asked for support for both the 27-year-old company and the package release of Xenoblade 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
Tetsuya Takahashi's studio also made Xenoblade Chronicles, Xenoblade 3 and earlier work such as Xenosaga. Xenoblade 3's Switch 2 Edition is slated for December 3, according to specialist coverage.
In practice
The cartridge is sold as a standalone Switch 2 Edition. Anyone who bought digital in July does not need the physical copy. The US store lists 37.7 GB on Switch 2 versus 13.2 GB on the original Switch.
