Xbox reportedly has exclusive GTA VI streaming rights at launch, The Verge says

GTA VI could only be streamed at launch on Xbox Cloud Gaming, according to a The Verge report on October 6, 2026, based on sources familiar with Microsoft's plans. Rockstar and Microsoft have not publicly confirmed the agreement on Grand Theft Auto VI.

What the report says

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma told employees at an internal all-hands the same day that Microsoft is preparing something around GTA VI that "no other platform holder is doing." Sources linked that line to an exclusive streaming-rights deal.

If confirmed, the deal would apply at launch. Its length was not reported. Rockstar has not announced a PC version. Without one, PC players would need an Xbox Series, a PS5, or a cloud service. The Verge says the exclusivity would give Microsoft a direct pitch for Cloud Gaming to that audience.

Cloud rules change in the same month

The report recalls Microsoft's already announced Xbox Cloud Gaming changes from November, the same month set for GTA VI. Monthly hour caps would be 15 for Game Pass Ultimate, 10 for Premium, and 5 for Essential. Microsoft is also opening a pay-as-you-go option next month, outside a subscription.

In the same internal meeting, Sharma reportedly said Project Helix, the next Xbox hardware generation, will be a "family of devices" and that Microsoft will partner on some of them. That point also comes from an account of the meeting, not a public announcement.

What is not confirmed

The Verge treats the contract as sourced reporting, not an official fact. The length of exclusivity, the price of extra hours, and whether PlayStation will stream the game later are unknown. Inven Global echoed the report the same day, citing The Verge.
