Windows 11 tests phone controls and a speed test in Quick Settings

Microsoft released a new round of Windows 11 Insider Preview builds on October 23, 2026, and Experimental build 26340.9767 brings two practical additions to Quick Settings: controls for the connected phone and a built-in internet speed test.

The new Mobile devices experience in Quick Settings lets users act on their smartphone without breaking their flow on the PC. With a supported Android phone connected, users can check battery status, turn on Do Not Disturb before a meeting, change the ringer mode and play a sound to find the phone nearby. iPhone support starts out more limited, focused on showing device information, and Microsoft notes that capabilities vary by platform and device configuration.

The speed test now also runs inside Windows itself: it can be started from the new Speed test Quick Setting, from the Wi-Fi or Cellular flyout, or by right-clicking the network icon in the system tray. Quick Settings shows progress while the test runs and then displays download speed, upload speed and ping, without redirecting to a browser — an improvement over the earlier Insider test, which opened the browser to show results.

The same build adds a filter by enablement state for feature flags in Windows Insider settings, an option to turn the Magnifier shortcut (Windows key + plus) on or off, and Microsoft 365 recurring billing management directly in Settings. As with all Experimental channel features, the rollout is gradual, so not every Insider sees the changes at the same time.

One caveat: this is a test build, not the final Windows 11 release for all users. Microsoft has not said if or when these features will reach the stable version of the system.
