WePlay Expo JAPAN 2027 runs from April 2 to 4, 2027, at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, in halls 5 and 6. It is the first Japanese edition of the games-culture fair created in China. IID and San-ei, which form the executive committee, announced it on October 8, 2026.
What happened?
April 2 of WePlay Expo JAPAN 2027 will be a business day for invited guests and professional-ticket holders. April 3 and 4 are open to the general public. Organizers plan AAA and indie games across PC, console, and mobile, with demo areas, booth merchandise, and stage programming.
WePlay Expo started in China in 2017. CiGA (China indie Game Alliance), one of the original fair’s organizers, joins as licensor and producer of the Japanese edition. Zaikei reported that the 2025 edition gathered about 500 titles from 13 countries and regions. The Japanese organizers say some programming is still being planned and may change.
Why it matters
Makuhari Messe is the same complex that hosts Tokyo Game Show. Bringing WePlay Expo JAPAN 2027 there creates a bridge between China’s indie scene and Japanese audiences, plus a day reserved for publishers, investors, and press. Famitsu highlighted the Japanese debut the same day as the official IID release.
For people tracking Asian launches, the fair could showcase titles that do not yet appear at Western events. Japan’s 2027 calendar already has other games and anime markers, such as the theatrical debut of Gundam SEED FREEDOM ZERO in January. WePlay Expo JAPAN 2027 sits in that circuit as a culture and business event, not as a single-game launch.
What to expect
The official site and event channels are expected to carry updates through April 2027. The English confirmation ran on Gematsu, based on the organizers’ announcement. Tickets, exhibitor lists, and stage times were not detailed in the October release.
