Valor Mortis launch: first-person soulslike from Ghostrunner creators arrives tomorrow

What happened?

The Valor Mortis launch is confirmed for October 13, 2026. Developed by One More Level, creators of Ghostrunner, and published by Lyrical Games, the title arrives for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Valor Mortis launch includes day one availability on Xbox Game Pass, priced at $39.99.

The game is a first-person action RPG soulslike set in a supernatural retelling of the Napoleonic Wars. Players control William, a resurrected Grande Armée soldier, fighting monsters while unraveling a conspiracy.

Why is this important?

The soulslike genre rarely appears in first person. One More Level adapts its Ghostrunner expertise — known for parkour and fluid combat — to deliberate combat, with dual-wield, progression for swords, firearms and magic. The Valor Mortis launch features voices by Vincent Cassel as Napoleon and Jennifer English.

Delayed from September to avoid release saturation and incorporate feedback from demos and public playtests. Early scores: 80 on OpenCritic and 77 on Metacritic.

What changes in practice?

With the Valor Mortis launch, players get immediate access via Game Pass on Xbox and can test the demo on Steam. Deluxe edition at $59.99 includes story DLC and cosmetics. New Game+ arrives later in 2026.
