Valor Mortis, the new first-person soulslike developed by One More Level (creators of Ghostrunner) and published by Lyrical Games, launched today, October 13, 2026, for PlayStation 5, PC via Steam and Xbox Series X|S. The title also arrives day-one on Xbox Game Pass.
What happened?
The launch is global and simultaneous. In the game, the player controls William Dowsett, a British soldier who served in Napoleon's Grande Armée and rises from a battlefield grave in an alternate version of the 19th century, where a supernatural plague has turned soldiers and the landscape into abominations.
Combat is first-person, focused on parries, dashes, visceral finishers and corrupted powers derived from the plague. The player explores levels inspired by the Napoleonic era, uncovers a conspiracy and faces Napoleon's Eternal Guard. Vincent Cassel voices the emperor.
The standard edition is priced at $39.99. There is also a Deluxe Edition. There was no digital pre-order or early access; access is at launch time. A 90-minute trial is available for PS Plus Premium subscribers, with transferable progress.
Why it matters
One More Level built its reputation with Ghostrunner, a first-person action game with parkour and precise combat in a cyberpunk setting. Valor Mortis applies that movement and agile combat expertise to a darker tone, mixing soulslike, horror and alternate history. It is the studio's biggest project yet and arrives in an already crowded October calendar.
Day-one Game Pass availability and the relatively accessible price increase the chance that many players will try the title immediately.
