The The Boxer anime adapts JH's manhwa. Crunchyroll announced the TV series on October 8 at its New York Comic Con 2026 panel and will stream it when it premieres. There is no release date yet.
Animation on The Boxer anime is split between two studios: the new Japanese studio breccia, founded by Muneki Ogasawara, a founding member and producer at Kinema Citrus, and the Korean studio STUDIO JEMI. Direction is shared by Takehiro Kubota, from the My Happy Marriage anime franchise, and Won Yeong Kang, an animator on Cardfight!! Vanguard overDress and will+Dress. Toshiya Ono (86, The Promised Neverland) handles series composition and scripts. Masahiro Suwa (The Rising of the Shield Hero) designs the characters. BLUE RIGHTS is credited as creative producer.
Who is producing it and who is cast
Anime News Network lists HAYATE Inc., the anime joint venture of Aniplex and Crunchyroll, as producer, with co-production from LINE Manga, Crunchyroll, XTORM, and BLUE RIGHTS. The announced main cast:
- Kōki Uchiyama as Yu
- Kenshō Ono as Ryu
- Tomokazu Seki as K
- Toshiyuki Toyonaga as J
The synopsis used by Ize Press, which publishes the English print edition, opens with legendary coach K searching for a final prodigy. He finds an apathetic teenager who simply stands still while bullies throttle him. WEBTOON has already released the complete series in English digitally. Crunchyroll posted a trailer with the announcement, without a premiere window.
The editorial point is the split production between a newly founded Japanese studio with roots at Kinema Citrus and a Korean studio, on a sports manhwa Crunchyroll is taking straight into its catalog. So far this is a production announcement, not a date.
