Thank You Bus Driver: Double Fine sets October 14 on PC, its first post-Xbox game

Double Fine Productions has locked a date for Thank You Bus Driver: the game arrives on October 14, 2026 on PC via Steam, GOG and itch.io. It is the studio's first title after leaving Xbox this northern-hemisphere summer, and it ships under the Double Fine Action Labs label for small, weird, fast games.

The original announcement went up on September 4 on Double Fine's site. The new piece in the last hours is the locked date and the Steam page now listing October 14 as the planned release.

What the game is

Thank You Bus Driver is a comedy bus-driving sim. You have to hit the next stop, keep the schedule and enforce rules that change every day. Rule-breakers get slapped. Repeat offenders go out the back door. Happy riders say “thank you” — and those thank-yous buy extra time and unlocks.

Double Fine describes it as Crazy Taxi crossed with Papers, Please. The look is black and white. The idea came from developer Will Koehler and was built by a small team in a matter of weeks, in the spirit of Amnesia Fortnight.

Why it matters

After the Xbox spin-out, Double Fine kept its IP and back catalogue. Thank You Bus Driver is the first public test of that independence: a short game, no consoles announced, published under Action Labs. It is not the next Psychonauts. It is the studio showing it can still ship something playable in a few weeks.

There is no official price. There is no confirmed PlayStation, Xbox or Switch version. The wishlist is open on Steam, the Double Fine site, GOG and itch.io.
