Tencent Games, through Cosmic Pup Studio (COSMICPUP STUDIO), announced this week the open-world RPG Ordinary Oddness. The title arrives with a 22-minute real gameplay trailer and promises to explore the concept that the strange is the new normal.
What happened?
The studio, linked to Tencent's Photon Studio Group and led by NetEase veteran Ye Qian (known as Yang Tou), revealed the game across multiple platforms. Ordinary Oddness is set in Elysian Skies, a metropolis floating above the clouds, where humans and creatures called Mythoids have coexisted since the Albinox Judgment event.
What we know about the game
The player takes on the role of a Consulting Investigator who, together with assistant Arabella (who lives inside a painting), solves abnormal cases for humans and Mythoids. The 22-minute demonstration, recorded during the main interlude "Nightingale · Luminar", shows the Red Shift phenomenon, which distorts streets in real time and transports the player to mental worlds with altered gravity and transitions between 2D and 3D.
Combat is action-focused, emphasizing perfect dodge, block, parry, and character switching. The trailer features multi-phase boss fights whose mechanics are tied to the urban legends behind the creatures.
Why it matters
Developed in Unreal Engine 5, the game aims to stand out in the Chinese open-world RPG market by blending urban investigation, light supernatural elements, and dynamic combat. Pre-registration is already open for PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and WeGame. Versions for PS5 and Xbox Series have also been confirmed, but without a release date.
