Tab emerges from stealth at a $300 million valuation with an AI agent in iMessage and WhatsApp

Startup Tab announced it has emerged from stealth at a $300 million valuation with an artificial intelligence agent that lives inside iMessage and WhatsApp. Co-founder Ammar Amdani gave the details to TechCrunch. The company did not disclose the exact size of the round.

Brennan Erbz, Stafford Schlitt and Amdani started work on the product earlier this year. As Amdani described it, a person texts for help — groceries, a booking or a gift — and the agent tries to carry out the task. He said Tab has its own phone number, computer and wallet, rather than only telling the user what to do.

“You text it like you’d text someone you trust and it takes the weight off,” Amdani told TechCrunch. Investors named in the round include SV Angel, Valar Ventures and American Spirit. Amdani said growth is mostly by word of mouth for now and that the company plans to launch another product soon.

Trust as the product

The announcement joins the consumer personal-assistant race, alongside names such as Instinct and Meta’s Muse, which also promise to handle everyday tasks. Amdani framed the contest as a capability race, but shifted the winning criterion: the harder question, he said, is whether a user should let the agent in.

The company says user data is never used to train AI, that the card lives in a vault Tab itself never sees, and that nothing irreversible happens without a “yes.” Those are company statements, not an independent audit.

A $300 million valuation on the way out of stealth, without the check size, measures investor appetite more than a proven product. What is confirmed is the positioning: an agent that acts by message, still growing by word of mouth, in a category where Meta and other startups already compete for the same habit.
