Microsoft opened pre-orders for the Surface Laptop Ultra RTX Spark, its most powerful notebook equipped with the NVIDIA chip, starting at $2,599, with availability from October 16, 2026.
What happened?
The Surface Laptop Ultra RTX Spark combines a Blackwell GPU with up to 6,144 cores, a Grace CPU with up to 20 cores, and up to 128 GB of LPDDR5X unified memory. The base configuration brings 18 CPU cores, 5,120 GPU cores, 24 GB RAM, and 512 GB SSD. The top model, with 20 cores and 128 GB, reaches about $5,900. Pre-orders for the Surface Laptop Ultra RTX Spark started on October 7.
Why it matters
The device marks NVIDIA's entry into the PC CPU market with ARM architecture, offering up to 1 petaflop of AI performance (FP4) and the ability to run models of more than 120 billion parameters locally. It includes a 15-inch mini-LED display with a peak of 2,000 nits, magnetic USB-C port, and native support for games like Gears of War: E-Day.
Microsoft positions the Surface Laptop Ultra RTX Spark as a high-performance alternative to the MacBook Pro, with an option of up to $1,000 cashback on eligible MacBook trade-ins. Other RTX Spark laptops from ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo are also in pre-order, shipping from October 16.
In practice
Unified memory allows dynamic allocation between CPU and GPU, ideal for AI workloads, creation, and development without relying exclusively on the cloud. The design includes a replaceable SSD and multiple ports.
