Suikoden: The Anime (Gensō Suikoden) has dropped its third full PV and official Japanese TV premiere date: October 3, 2026, at 11:30 PM on Tokyo MX. Produced by KONAMI animation, the series adapts Suikoden II, the beloved 1998 JRPG widely regarded as the franchise's masterpiece.
What Happened?
The new Suikoden: The Anime trailer previews the opening theme 'Kanashimi Sae Otonabite' ('Even in Sorrow, I Will Look Like an Adult') by rock band amazarashi, and reveals the ending theme 'closed eye sun' by Kōji Nakamura featuring Honoka Takahashi. Nakamura is also composing the series' soundtrack.
Following its Tokyo MX debut, the show will roll out across 31 additional broadcasting networks between October 6 and 9. The premiere episode was previously announced as a special 60-minute feature during early cinema screenings.
What Is It About?
Riou and Jowy serve in the Unicorn Youth Brigade of the Highland Kingdom in northeastern Dunan. A peace treaty with the City-State of Jowston was supposed to end the border war. It didn't. Dragged back into the conflict and thrust into unexpected power, the two childhood friends walk paths intertwined with the 108 Stars of Destiny—each driven by radically different convictions.
The confirmed voice cast includes Toshiki Kumagai (Riou), Shimba Tsuchiya (Jowy), Ayumi Hinohara (Nanami), Katsuyuki Konishi (Viktor), Yūichi Nakamura (Flik), and Taku Yashiro (Luca Blight), alongside Chika Anzai, Ayumu Murase, Takeo Ōtsuka, and Miyuki Sawashiro, among others.
Why Does It Matter?
Suikoden II is the game that cemented the series' signature 108 Stars, sweeping geopolitical warfare, and a heartbreaking friendship turned rivalry. Following the HD Remaster of I & II in March 2025 and Konami's ongoing development of the mobile and PC title Gensō Suikoden: Star Leap, Suikoden: The Anime brings the iconic franchise back to the spotlight for both veterans and newcomers.
In short: series fans will instantly recognize familiar names, True Runes, and the crushing weight of Riou and Jowy's choices. Newcomers get an epic tale of war, loyalty, and betrayal without needing to memorize 1998 retro menus.
What This Doesn't Mean Yet
There is currently no official confirmation regarding simultaneous international streaming. Furthermore, it is unconfirmed whether all 108 characters will have spoken lines; production staff have noted the massive scale of the cast means some fan-favorite characters might only appear during openings, endings, or eyecatches.
