Steam Deck 2 APU: AMD Zen 6 sample with 6 cores and 24 GB LPDDR5-9600 appears in benchmarks

The possible Steam Deck 2 APU from AMD, a Zen 6 engineering sample with 6 cores, 12 threads and 24 GB of LPDDR5 at 9600 MT/s, appeared in benchmark listings and is pointed as the Gainsborough intended for the successor to Valve's handheld.

What we know

The chip identified as 100-000001930-12_Y was tested on an AMD GBR-FF6-SKT validation board at 2.4 GHz. Memory uses four 6 GB SK Hynix modules, totaling 24 GB at 9600 MT/s — versus the 16 GB LPDDR5-6400 and 4-core Zen 2 APU of the current Steam Deck OLED.

The Gainsborough codename (Aerith's surname from Final Fantasy VII) follows Valve's tradition. Leakers indicate a semi-custom 3 nm design with Zen 6 CPU and potentially RDNA 5 GPU.

Why it matters

If confirmed, the 50% increase in cores and memory would bring a relevant generational upgrade for the Steam Deck 2, improving AAA performance without losing portability. There is no official confirmation from Valve or AMD about the final product or release date.
