State of Play Drops Final Marvel's Wolverine Trailer & Sephiroth Crossover

Sony hosted another edition of State of Play this Thursday (3), and this time the broadcast did not disappoint those expecting major announcements for the remainder of 2026. In just over 30 minutes, the presentation delivered the final trailer for Marvel's Wolverine, a surprise expansion for Ghost of Yōtei, an unexpected crossover in Final Fantasy, and a dozen other announcements already dominating gaming social feeds.

Marvel's Wolverine Gets Final Trailer Ahead of Launch

The major highlight of the night went to Marvel's Wolverine, the upcoming PS5 exclusive developed by Insomniac Games. The studio, already acclaimed for its Spider-Man games, showed Logan sharing the screen with Jean Grey and Mystique in a combat sequence set inside a temple, reinforcing the darker and more violent tone promised since the first announcement. The game hits stores on September 15, less than two weeks away, which explains the wave of reaction videos already sweeping YouTube and TikTok.

Ghost of Yōtei Receives Expansion with Roguelike Mode

Fans who finished Ghost of Yōtei also have reason to celebrate. Sucker Punch Productions revealed Echoes of Sekigahara, an expansion featuring a roguelike mode named "Most Wanted" and flashbacks set during the historic Battle of Sekigahara. The cherry on top is the return of Jin Sakai, the protagonist of the original Ghost of Tsushima, hinting at a connection between the two stories. The expansion arrives on October 1.

Final Fantasy Resonance Brings Sephiroth to an HD-2D RPG

Among the most discussed announcements on social media is Final Fantasy Resonance, an HD-2D style RPG promising a crossover between different eras of the franchise—including the confirmed appearance of Sephiroth, one of gaming's most iconic villains. A demo is already available, and the full release is scheduled for October 22.

Monster Hunter Wilds, Crimson Desert, and More News

The presentation also made room for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, an expansion introducing the floating Skybound Eyrie region and the return of the Elder Dragon Kushala Daora, launching in 2027 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Other highlights included Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown (October 15), Metro 2039—a sequel set in a flooded Moscow slated for February 4, 2027—Maneater 2, the new Gundam Rogue Orbit universe, and a scene preview for the live-action Resident Evil movie, hitting theaters on September 18.

With so many releases lined up for the coming weeks, the September State of Play reinforces Sony's strategy to keep audiences engaged through the second half of the year—guaranteeing plenty of buzz for forums and social media in the days ahead.
