Squadron 42 Steam: wishlist opens with planned Q2 2027 release

Squadron 42 Steam wishlist is now open. The single-player spin-off of Star Citizen can be added to the wishlist on Valve's platform, with a planned release window in the second quarter of 2027.

What happened?

Cloud Imperium Games announced the Squadron 42 Steam page opening on October 10, 2026, accompanied by a new trailer called "The Oath". The game has been in development for over a decade and has been delayed several times, the latest to avoid GTA 6's launch window, according to Chris Roberts.

The story is set in 2945, with the player as a UEE Navy recruit in a galactic war, mixing space combat, ground operations, stealth and moments with the crew. The cast includes Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, Henry Cavill, Andy Serkis and others, all with performance capture.

Why does this matter?

Squadron 42 Steam represents an important step for one of the longest and most ambitious projects in the industry, linked to the Star Citizen universe, which has raised over $1 billion. Arriving on Steam marks a concrete step toward launch, allowing players to track and be notified. Minimum requirements include 16 GB of RAM and about 150 GB of storage.

What changes in practice?

Players can now add Squadron 42 Steam to the wishlist and follow updates. The game is single-player, standalone in the Star Citizen universe, running on StarEngine. There is no exact date yet, only the Q2 2027 window (April to June).
