Sony Group confirmed it will not exhibit at CES 2027, its first absence since the show’s inaugural edition in 1967. The news was reported by Bloomberg and picked up by VGC and GamesIndustry.biz.
What happened?
Neither Sony nor its affiliates plan a booth in Las Vegas in January. This year the company already lacked its own stand, but the Honda joint venture showed the Afeela EV. That partnership has been reassessed and the EV project is no longer central.
A spokesperson said Sony evaluates events based on business needs and priorities. The current focus, the company said, is entertainment, intellectual property and technology that supports creators.
Why it matters for games
CES hosted PlayStation announcements in the past. In 2020 Jim Ryan revealed the PS5 logo. In 2022 Sony showed PlayStation VR2 and Horizon Call of the Mountain. With no presence in 2027, no direct hardware or software news from the brand is expected on the Las Vegas stage.
The shift underscores Sony’s move toward games, music, film and anime, and reduces the weight of the consumer-electronics show on its public calendar. CES 2027 runs January 6–9 in Las Vegas.
