A recent rumor indicates that NVIDIA may be ending production of new GeForce RTX 5090 cards, redirecting GB202 chips exclusively to the professional RTX PRO lineup.
The information comes from leaker MEGAsizeGPU, who posted on X on October 10, 2026: “All future GB202 supplies are RTX Pro exclusive”. According to him, GB202 chips will no longer be used in new RTX 5090 units (including the Chinese D and D v2 variants). NVIDIA has neither confirmed nor denied the report.
What the rumor claims
The GB202 is the largest desktop die in the Blackwell architecture. The RTX 5090 uses a version with 21,760 CUDA cores and 32 GB of GDDR7 on a 512-bit bus (575 W). The same chips power professional models such as the RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell (up to 24,064 cores and 96 GB) and other PRO series variants.
If the claim is true, the GeForce lineup would be left without a GB202-based model in active production. Board partners could continue selling already assembled stock, but new units would depend on existing inventory.
Additional speculation about a 24 GB RTX 5080
Another leaker, hongxing2020, shared what is described as a factory notice indicating that NVIDIA would stop selling RTX 5090 models and that a 24 GB RTX 5080 would replace the current 16 GB version, becoming the top GeForce card. MEGAsizeGPU has not confirmed this part. The idea of a 24 GB 5080 has circulated before, previously linked to possible SUPER models, but it depended on 3 GB GDDR7 modules whose high cost had already delayed earlier plans.
Why it matters
The RTX 5090 already faces limited availability and elevated market prices (often well above the original ~$1,999 MSRP). Prioritizing chips for higher-margin professional products demanded by AI workloads and workstations makes commercial sense for NVIDIA. For gamers and creators, the practical result would be even less supply of the current flagship and a possible gap at the top of the GeForce lineup until the next generation.
As of now, this remains an unconfirmed rumor. NVIDIA has not announced an end-of-production date.
