RetroSpace is out today: a disco-punk imsim on a station swallowed by a black hole

The space-horror immersive sim RetroSpace arrives this Thursday, October 1, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam. Kwalee publishes it, and The Wild Gentlemen, the studio known for Chicken Police, develops it.

The game casts the player as a janitor woken from cryosleep on Aurora 5, a station in the fleet meant to find a new home for humanity in 2177. The station has been swallowed by a sentient black hole. Corridors mix animal-plant hybrids, areas flip between timelines, and survivors still hand out missions, including a sentient AI and a talking pig.

What the game promises

Kwalee presents RetroSpace as a love letter to immersive sims, with low-poly art and a 1960s and 1970s retro-futurist mood. Obstacles can be solved through stealth, light and shadow, traps, turret hacks, or direct combat. Mutations called Mutamods expand the toolkit, and the game itself warns of side effects.

The map is interconnected, in a metroidvania style, and death feeds a rebirth system. The starting tool is a power wrench. The tone mixes space horror with disco-punk humor, including the 1970s mustaches highlighted on the Steam page.

Why it matters

Indie immersive sims remain rare on the console calendar. RetroSpace lands on the same day as other releases already covered by Geekiki, such as End of Abyss and Rayman Legends Retold, but it occupies a different niche: systemic exploration rather than linear action or platforming.

The Steam page was still listing the date as to be announced in recent checks, while Rock Paper Shotgun treated the game as available this Thursday and Kwalee had set October 1 back in August. Check the storefront before buying.
