The PS5 Pro is back in a queue in Japan. Sony Interactive Entertainment opened applications on September 28 at Sony Store Japan for the CFI-7100B01 with a 2 TB SSD, priced at 137,980 yen (about US$877). If demand exceeds stock, sales become a lottery.
Who can apply
Applicants need a Japan-registered Sony account, PlayStation Network on that account, and at least 60 hours of play on PS4 or PS5 between September 27, 2024 and September 27, 2026. The Sony Account and My Sony ID must also be unified.
Timeline
Applications close on October 7. Results start around October 26. Winners must buy by November 2. Shipping is slated for early to mid-November.
Why Sony did it
The PS5 Pro remains scarce in Japan. The 60-hour rule favors people who actually play on PlayStation and aims to cut scalping. Reports also tie demand to Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19 and the wider memory shortage.
What changes in practice
The policy applies only to Sony Store Japan. Anyone below the 60-hour mark is out, even if they can pay full price.
