Project Sekai ends its main story in early 2028 and continues with After Story

The Japanese server of Project Sekai will close the main story of its units in early 2028. IT Home reported on October 4 that Project Sekai: Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku continues afterward on two tracks: After Story and Another Story.

What Colorful Palette is planning

Producer Yuichiro Kondo said the ending of Project Sekai was already set. In a third-anniversary interview and stream, the team had already said the plot would one day close. At that point, the report says, overall progress was about halfway.

Before the final chapter, each character is set to complete the same number of character events, the banners the community calls box events. Only then come the final-chapter events for each unit. Project Sekai, launched in September 2020, has five playable groups of five and mixes rhythm play with the story of 20 teenagers alongside Hatsune Miku and other Vocaloids.

After the main story

After Story stays on the current timeline and shows what the units do once the main arc is over, including the next stage of growth and graduation. Another Story returns to the gap between the start and the end of the main story to fill in backstage scenes and events that were left out.

Kondo stressed that ending the main story of Project Sekai is not driven by weak revenue. Six years in, the game would still be operating well, and stretching the plot on purpose would be easy. The choice, he said, is to deliver the planned ending once the story has done what it was meant to do. The source is IT Home, summarizing the Japanese-server notice. The report does not confirm the same date for the Chinese server, operated by ByteDance's Nuverse.
