Sony Interactive Entertainment and Crunchyroll will put an anime hub in the PlayStation 5 home experience in spring 2027. The announcement, made on October 7, 2026, at the Crunchyroll Anime Future Forum, is separate from the creation of Crunchyroll Storyworks: this time the product is a destination inside the console, not an adaptation studio.
What was announced
According to the release reported by Gematsu and Variety, Sony will introduce a dedicated space on the PS5 home screen bringing together anime, anime-inspired games, and easier access to the full Crunchyroll app. The idea is that a fan can find a series from a game, character, or world they already know, and the other way around.
Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini tied the hub to Crunchyroll membership on PlayStation and to the Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime series. “Today we take that partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment one step further with an anime hub on PlayStation. Serving fans means meeting them where they already are,” he said in the release.
Variety reports that the announcement was made by PlayStation president and CEO Hideaki Nishino at the same forum where Sony presented Storyworks. The hub, however, is about discovery and access, not production.
Why it matters
Anime and games already cross on PlayStation, from in-game collaborations to adaptations such as Ghost of Tsushima. A fixed shortcut on the home screen changes the entry point: instead of the user opening the Crunchyroll app on their own, Sony will organize that discovery inside the console interface.
There is still no title list, interface layout, or confirmation that the hub will reach PS5 Pro differently, the PlayStation Portal, or other regions on a different schedule. The window given is spring 2027, in the Northern Hemisphere, which points to something between March and June, with no exact date.
