Order of the Sinking Star launches October 8 on PC, PS5 and Switch 2

Order of the Sinking Star launches on October 8, 2026 for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. It comes from Arc Games and Thekla, the studio of Jonathan Blow, creator of Braid and The Witness.

The date was announced in August. What changes now is the actual release: the game leaves the promise stage and arrives in stores, about ten years after The Witness. A PC demo was already available, with progress that carries into the full game.

A puzzle supercollider

In a statement, Blow described the project as a kind of design supercollider. It brings together ideas from Alan Hazelden, Sean Barrett, Jonah Ostroff, Zach Polansky, Patrick Traynor, Marc ten Bosch and others, including contributions that came from Twitch streams.

The official pitch mentions more than a thousand handcrafted challenges, dozens of mechanics and hundreds of hours of play. There are four worlds, each with its own rules. Players can leave a dead end and come back later. Characters cited include a queen, a thief, a warrior, a wizard and a talking boat.

In a BBC interview, Blow estimated about 1,500 puzzles and something near 500 hours for anyone who wants to see everything. He also said the game was built with Jai, a language he created, and a custom engine. Those figures are the director's estimates, not an official completion clock.

The publisher said the demo was one of the most played during Steam Next Fest. Launch price was not detailed in the sources used for this piece.
