Octopath Traveler Switch 2: both HD-2D RPGs are available now

Octopath Traveler Switch 2 is on sale: Square Enix released Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler II on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 1, 2026, with resolution and frame rate tuned for the console. The official note is on the Square Enix North America press hub. This is not a new game in the series.

What happened?

The versions are individual releases of the two HD-2D RPGs. The launch trailer is at youtu.be/1qX08dpzxfU. The games remain on the original Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.

The publisher says the series has shipped and sold more than 7 million copies since 2018. The first game is set in Orsterra. The 2023 sequel takes place in Solistia, with eight new characters and turn-based combat.

Why it matters

Switch 2 already leads a large share of physical retail in Japan, and Square Enix is using the console to put two catalog RPGs back with a clearer image, not a bare port. HD-2D is Team Asano's signature. On the new handheld the gap shows up in travel and in battle.

The release does not list a Brazil price or a free upgrade from Switch. Official pages: Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler II.

What changes in practice?

On Octopath Traveler Switch 2 you can still start with any of the eight leads. Square Enix also set a GOG debut for October 8, at 70% off and 60% off through October 18 Pacific time. No exclusive mode, new DLC or date for a brand-new Octopath.
