Octopath Traveler comes to GOG on October 8 in the preservation program

Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler II arrive on the GOG store on October 8, 2026, and join the GOG Preservation Program. Square Enix confirmed the step in the same release that covered the Nintendo Switch 2 version, already available since October 1.

The news is not the console port. It is the first time Octopath Traveler and the sequel ship on GOG, with direct download and without the store's DRM. From October 8 at 12 a.m. PT until midnight on October 18, the first title is 70% off and the second is 60% off, according to the Square Enix North America press release.

What GOG lists on the pages

GamingOnLinux, opening the store pages, recorded the changelog listed by GOG. For the first game: verified on Windows 10 and 11, modern controller support and validated stability. For the second: modern controller support and validated stability. The pages are already up for wishlisting at Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler II.

GOG's preservation program is the editorial frame of the arrival. The store presents these titles as part of a catalog meant to stay playable outside a single client. Square Enix did not detail, in the release, whether there will be exclusive PC content beyond what already exists on Steam.

On Switch 2, Square Enix had already said both games gain resolution and frame rates tuned for the console, without a save upgrade from the previous version. That part stands. What changes now is the DRM-free PC window for Octopath Traveler, set for October 8.
