Nagoshi Studio dissolved: official end of the Yakuza creator's studio

Nagoshi Studio dissolved officially. The Japanese studio founded by Yakuza/Like a Dragon series creator Toshihiro Nagoshi has come to an end.

What happened?

According to the Japanese official gazette Kanpo, the dissolution of Nagoshi Studio was approved by a shareholders' resolution on October 31, 2026. The studio was created in 2021 with full support from Chinese company NetEase Games.

In March 2026, NetEase announced the funding cut starting in May after estimating that the debut project, Gang of Dragon (starring Ma Dong-seok), would need about US$44 million more to be completed.

Why does this matter?

The closure of Nagoshi Studio marks the end of one of Nagoshi's most ambitious attempts outside Sega and leaves the future of Gang of Dragon uncertain. It is another example of consolidations and cuts in the games industry, especially involving Chinese investments in Western and Japanese studios.
